Through an endowed professorship graciously supported by Senior Vice President for Health Affairs at University of Florida and President of University of Florida Health, David Nelson, M.D. and University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville (UF COMJ) Dean, Linda Edwards, M.D., two new Term Professorships have been established for UF COMJ faculty: one in Medical Education Research and Scholarship and one in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) Research and Scholarship. The Term Professorships are a 3-year term at $10,000/year for a total of $30,000 each. Term Professorships will be available every 3 years for open applications in the month of August to start in January of the following year.

The goal of the Term Professorships is to provide funding for more senior and experienced faculty who can further enhance their skills in Medical Education Research and Scholarship or QIPS Research and Scholarship, complete projects, publish and to further share their expertise with trainees and other faculty.

Faculty Eligibility

• All benefits-eligible UF COMJ non-tenured physician faculty at the Associate Professor or Professor rank with at least 5 years or greater appointment at UF COMJ
  • Excluding Chairs and Senior Associate Deans
• An established track record of service to the organization
• An established track record of commitment and leadership in the area of Medical Education or QIPS

Application Components

1. Statement Letter from Faculty (two-page limit)
2. Nomination Letter from Chair with an outline of any FTE commitment (two-page limit)
3. Other components listed below:
   1. A complete proposed project with expected outcomes. 1,000 word limit
   2. Description of track record of commitment and leadership in the area of Medical Education or QIPS. 500 word limit
   3. Formal Training: The applicant should describe formal training (certifications, degrees) in Medical Education or QIPS. It is completely appropriate to add trainings/certifications as part of this application to further enhance skills. 500-word limit
   4. The application should describe future plans/commitment to provide service to the organization for Medical Education or QIPS (e.g., faculty development sessions; serve as a mentor to residents, fellows and other faculty to complete rigorous work), and with the additional goals of peer-reviewed presentations and publications. 500-word limit
   5. Proposed Budget beginning January 2024 with budget justification.

Applications will be scored (described in application and with the rubric) by qualified faculty reviewers and forwarded to the Dean for the final decision. All applications will be submitted electronically. Awarded Term Professorships would start in January 2024.
