Where are the classes held?

All classes are held in the CDQ classroom, located on the 6th floor of Tower I in Suite 606 (unless otherwise indicated on a class announcement).

How much does it cost to take classes?

Classes offered by the CDQ education department are free of charge. However, the classes are offered ONLY to employees of University of Florida or UF Health.

Are prerequisites required?

No prerequisites are required for medical terminology and the business of healthcare. However, medical terminology is the prerequisite for anatomy, ICD-10-CM and CPT. Students must pass medical terminology or show proof (i.e. certificate or transcript) for a medical terminology class recently taken at another facility prior to being enrolled in anatomy, ICD-10-CM and CPT classes.

How do I test out of a class?

Contact one of the education specialists. When testing out of a class, a student’s test score must be 80% or higher to be considered “passing” a class.

Is there an order to the classes or can I take any class at any time?

Most classes are designed to be taken in succession. There are few classes, however, which may be taken out of succession. All classes are offered during regularly scheduled business hours and must be approved by your manager.

Do I have to pay for books or other class materials?

You will be provided with the class text and handouts (at no charge). Certain classes require a three-ring binder, which is your responsibility to provide. You are responsible for supplying your own pens, pencils and/or highlighters. Plan to come to class prepared. Both the student and instructor benefit much more when everyone is prepared. Are coding manuals provided?

A limited amount of loaner manuals are available for checkout at the beginning of each class. **Personal notes cannot be inserted into the loaned books ** Loaned manuals must be returned on the last day of class.

What is considered a passing grade?

The University of Florida considers a score of 80% or higher as passing. Therefore, certificates are only issued to students who pass a class with an 80% or better score. If a student does not pass a class, the student must re-take the class.

What happens if I miss a class?

Contact the class instructor as soon as you know you will miss a class. Each class has different criteria pertaining to missing a class.
