Top Four Fundraising Priorities

The University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville is currently focusing on four major areas of growth as well as opportunities for philanthropy: chairs, professorships and lectureships; education and research building; patient safety and quality; and integrative medicine and palliative care.

1. Chairs, Professorships and Lectureships

Professorships help us recruit and retain outstanding faculty dedicated to training the next generation of physicians. We currently have six professorships and one lectureship on our campus:

2. Education and Research Building

New facilities dedicated to education and research are needed on the Jacksonville campus to enhance the educational mission and to foster clinical and translational research that spurs technology commercialization.

3. Patient Safety and Quality

Training and attention to patient safety and quality help eliminate medical errors. With our Center for Simulation Education and Safety Research (CSESaR), we promote quality patient care, expand patient safety initiatives and enhance multidisciplinary health care, education and teamwork through simulation and goal-directed training. In addition, we sponsor a patient safety fellowship centered on experiential learning in the field of patient safety. This fellowship will train professionals dedicated to making a difference in healthcare through leadership and advocacy in patient safety.

4. Integrative Medicine and Palliative Care

Funding will create a comprehensive health-care program that incorporates the best of conventional medicine with proven complementary therapies, offering an integrative approach to care and wellness that will transform health-care delivery in the region.

Incorporating palliative care into patients' existing treatment plans may help improve their quality of life and may even slow the progress of or reverse their illness. We use an interdisciplinary approach to pain and symptom management to address the patient's physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs and by providing support to family caregivers.
