Meet the Experts

Dr. Godwin graduated from and completed his internship at Medical University of South Carolina. He then completed his emergency medicine residency training at the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville. Upon finishing his residency he remained as a faculty member serving as the clerkship director two years and then the residency program director for eight years. He is currently an associate professor, assistant dean for Simulation Education, acting associate chair for academic affairs, and chief of service for the department of emergency medicine.

In 2000, while exploring his own interest in simulation training, he began incorporating simulation training into the emergency medicine residency curriculum. After 5 years, with increasing use of simulation training in the residency program, Dr. Godwin, in collaboration with the Dean’s office, began an initiative to institutionalize simulation training. He has played an integral role in this entire process, which ultimately led to the creation of the Center for Simulation Education and Safety Research.

In addition to simulation education, Dr. Godwin has specialized, recognized interest and expertise in emergency airway management and procedural sedation training. Dr. Godwin is also one of the creators of the simulation team competition known as Simwars that has been highlighted at national emergency medicine meetings and the International Meeting on Simulation on Healthcare.
