UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville senior leadership appointments

On Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, Daniel R. Wilson, M.D., Ph.D., vice president for health affairs and dean of the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville, announced the following dean appointments:

Tepas appointed associate dean for clinical informatics

Joseph J. Tepas III, M.D., department of surgery professor and chief of pediatric surgery, has been appointed associate dean for clinical informatics. Tepas will provide clinical leadership for the UF COM-Jacksonville in the areas of strategic planning, management, integration and implementation of clinical information systems and technology supporting the mission, values and goals. He will also provide oversight for clinical health information management, including the ongoing optimization of the Epic electronic medical record. Tepas will report to David J. Vukich, M.D., senior associate dean for hospital affairs, and Kari Cassel, senior vice president and chief information officer for UF&Shands.

Costa appointed assistant dean for clinical informatics

Joseph A. Costa, D.O., department of surgery associate professor and chief of the urology division, has been appointed assistant dean for clinical informatics. Costa will provide clinical leadership to meet meaningful use requirements under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) and the transition from Allscripts to Epic. He will lead communication of the latest guidelines to the faculty, support the rollout of modules for meaningful use, meet with departments to review compliance with meaningful use, and assist with implementation. Costa will report to Joseph J. Tepas III, M.D., associate dean for clinical informatics.

Lee appointed assistant dean for medical management and metrics, associate medical director of First Coast Advantage

Kenyatta Y. Lee, M.D.

Kenyatta Y. Lee, M.D., assistant professor in the department of community health and family medicine, has been appointed assistant dean for medical management and metrics, as well as associate medical director of First Coast Advantage. Lee will implement innovative quality improvement initiatives and leverage the electronic health record to develop the practice as a "patient-centered medical neighborhood" with patient registries, directed treatment protocols, and disease management systems. These teams will implement patient-centered clinical care protocols that improve care quality and revenue cycles. He will lead multidisciplinary teams in these initiatives via strong communications, writing, public speaking and public relations.
