Dr. Malcolm T. Foster installed as DCMS president

Malcolm T. Foster Jr., M.D., an adjunct professor in the department of medicine at University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville (UFCOM-J) was installed as the President of the Duval County Medical Society (DCMS) on December 1, 2010.

Over 200 DCMS members and guests attended the DCMS annual meeting where incoming President Dr. Foster, and outgoing president, UFCOM-J's John W. Kilkenny, M.D., were honored.

The DCMS is a voluntary professional association of over 2,000 physicians dedicated to the health of Jacksonville and the surrounding community. Founded in 1853, the DCMS is the oldest medical society in the State of Florida and serves as the voice for organized medicine in Duval County.

The 2011 DCMS induction also included Ashley E. Booth, M.D., assistant professor in the emergency medicine department as president-elect and the Board of Directors members David L. Wood, M.D. a professor in the department of pediatrics and J. B. Burns Jr., D.O., M.S. an assistant professor in the department of surgery.

Also honored at this meeting were UFCOM-J faculty receiving DCMS annual awards:

Jeffrey L. Goldhagen, M.D., a professor in the department of pediatrics, received the Community Service Award. The Community Service Award was established by the DCMS in 1998 to recognize the outstanding volunteer efforts of DCMS physicians performed outside of DCMS sponsored activities.

Rui P. Fernandes, D.M.D., M.D., FACS, an assistant professor in the department of surgery, received the Philip H. Gilbert Young Physician Leadership Award. This award was created in 2006 to honor the memory of Philip H. Gilbert, who served as the Executive Vice President of the DCMS from 1984 until his death in 2004. The award recognizes young physicians with leadership traits that Mr. Gilbert would have admired.
