UF Health Jacksonville names new chief executive officer

Patrick Green, MBA, FACHE

Patrick Green, MBA, FACHE, has been named chief executive officer of UF Health Jacksonville and will join the organization on July 10 following his highly successful leadership of one of the largest health care providers in the Northeast.

Green served as executive vice president of Yale New Haven Health, and president and CEO of Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Connecticut, since 2017. Yale New Haven Health is the largest health system in the state of Connecticut, comprising 30,000 employees and 8,200 medical staff and generating $6 billion in net revenue.

“We are thrilled that Patrick has agreed to take on this role at UF Health Jacksonville. He is a dynamic leader and change agent with a wide breadth of experience in health care, serving in top leadership roles for more than a decade,” said David R. Nelson, M.D., senior vice president for health affairs at the University of Florida and president of UF Health. “His leadership skills and strong business acumen, coupled with UF Health Jacksonville’s mission to heal, comfort, educate and discover, position us to create tremendous impact on the delivery of high-quality care to patients throughout the region, with a goal of helping them achieve the best possible outcomes so they can return to the quality of life they deserve.

“As one of the region’s most valuable assets, we are looking forward to growing our impact on the local economy, on innovations in the delivery of health care and on the education of future generations of health care providers and scientists,” Nelson added.

During his tenure at Yale New Haven Health, Green led the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic while also surpassing impressive goals for the health system. He developed and implemented a strategic vision focused on offering high-quality care to patients, growing service lines and increasing market share. He also led and improved the system’s operational performance and oversaw patient safety and quality outcomes, employee engagement, patient experience and financial performance.

Green has more than 25 years of experience in the health care industry and brings an incredible skillset to UF Health. Prior to joining Yale New Haven Health, Patrick served as interim president at Centura Health in Lakewood, Colorado, after holding roles as senior executive vice president and chief administrative officer, and as chief operating officer. Earlier in his career, he held roles as associate chief operating officer at Denver Health and worked at UW Medicine in Seattle.

“UF Health Jacksonville is a vital piece of our academic health center’s statewide footprint, and having strong, competent leadership at the helm there is critical,” UF President Ben Sasse said. “Patrick’s stellar experience in the health care industry will no doubt help ensure we deliver on our promise of providing UF Health Jacksonville patients with the best possible life-changing, compassionate care, and his proven ability to bring about first-class financial returns will help propel the system forward as we seek to expand our impact by bringing the latest health care advances to the region.”

Green will be replacing Russ Armistead as CEO, who returned to UF Health Jacksonville in 2021 on an interim basis following the passing of Leon L. Haley Jr., who served as both CEO of the hospital and dean of the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville. Mr. Armistead also served as CEO for the organization from 2013 to 2017.

“It’s an honor and privilege to be joining UF Health Jacksonville at such an exciting time for the organization,” said Green.  “There never has been a stronger commitment to ensuring a thriving UF Health Jacksonville. I look forward to partnering with our dedicated team and physician colleagues to further advance the mission of UF Health. Together we will improve the health of the communities we serve.”
