UF physician selected as a “40 under 40” member for 2019

Brian Yorkgitis, D.O., a UF Health Jacksonville trauma surgeon and assistant professor of surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, has been named to the “40 Under 40” list compiled by the Jacksonville Business Journal.

The Jacksonville Business Journal, in consultation with a range of First Coast business leaders, selects its “40 Under 40” based on demonstrated business success and leadership skills. The journal says those picked must also be involved in shaping the community in which they live and work, something that has become a point of pride for Yorkgitis.

Since coming to UF Health in 2016, one of Yorkgitis’ passions has been trauma education. For example, he has led the “Stop the Bleed” program, which teaches professionals and the public the best way to help save lives before emergency crews arrive by stopping bleeding in people with serious injuries. Yorkgitis has taught thousands of people through the program and has also been a major part of trauma education programs focused on seat belts, car seat safety, distracted driving and bike helmets.

The Jacksonville Business Journal says Yorkgitis is among the men and women who “got to where they are today through the support and guidance of those who went before them and are united in their belief that this requires them to give back — to mentor their colleagues, to help guide the next generation, to show by example how hard work, perseverance and dedication are important, impactful character traits.”
