UF College of Medicine physician named coveted informatics fellow

A University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville emergency medicine physician has been named a fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association, a national organization dedicated to improving the delivery of health care services through technology.

L. Kendall Webb, MD, FACEP, FAMIA, who serves as chief medical information officer of UF Health Jacksonville, is one of just two certified clinical informaticists (CMIOs) in Northeast Florida. She will be inducted as an AMIA fellow at the organization’s clinical informatics conference in Atlanta in April 2019.

Webb trained as a software engineer and worked for the U.S. Department of Defense before earning her medical degree. She is an associate professor of emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine, and also serves as the assistant dean of medical informatics.

“I am honored to be recognized by an organization so dedicated to improving the health of patients through effective and efficient evidence-based patient care,” said Webb. “The role of informatics continues to grow in healthcare, and I’m proud to be leading it at UF Health.”

The AMIA credential signals to patients and colleagues that fellows are steeped in evidence-based practice and engaged with a community of lifelong learners who apply the latest advances in informatics to improve health and health care.

Haley Jr., MD, MHSA, dean of the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville and CEO of UF Health Jacksonville. “Dr. Webb has led the way, and we are thrilled that her hard work has led to such a coveted fellowship.”

The AMIA aims to lead the way in transforming health care through trusted science, education and the practice of informatics and connects a broad community of professionals and students interested in informatics. The AMIA is the bridge for knowledge and collaboration across a continuum, from basic and applied research to the consumer and public health arenas.
