Chandana “Sandy” Lall, MD, MBA, FSAR, has been chosen as the new chair of radiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville.
Lall comes from the University of California, Irvine, where she served as a professor and vice chair of radiological sciences, director of abdominal imaging and director of the abdominal imaging fellowship program. She specializes in abdominal and pelvic imaging, with additional expertise in hepatobiliary, pancreatic and post-transplant imaging.
Lall officially joins UF COMJ in May.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to join the faculty and work with everyone at UF Health,” Lall said. “Our goal is to become one of the premier radiology departments in the Southeast. We want to take the department to the next level.”
Lall, a board-certified diagnostic radiologist, has more than 140 abstracts and scientific presentations at the Radiologic Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society and the Society of Abdominal Radiology, and has been published more than 100 times in peer-reviewed literature. Her main research interests are in advanced oncologic imaging, imaging biomarkers and the emerging field of radiomics and radiogenomics.
She reviews for several journals and has served as editor of Radiology Case Reports’ gastrointestinal and genitourinary imaging section. She also sits on the editorial board for Current Problems in Diagnostic Radiology and the American Journal of Kidney Disease.
Lall’s professional memberships include the Society of Abdominal Imaging, Indian Medical Association, Radiological Society of North America and the American Roentgen Ray Society.
Prior to UC Irvine, Lall served as an associate professor of radiology and imaging sciences and director of the abdominal imaging fellowship program at Indiana University’s School of Medicine.
She earned her medical degree from University College of Medicine Sciences in New Delhi. She completed residencies in diagnostic radiology at Lady Harding Medical College in New Delhi and Maimonides Medical Center/State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, and a fellowship in abdominal radiology at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. She also earned a Master of Business Administration, with a health care focus, from UC Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business.
“We look forward to welcoming Dr. Lall to the College of Medicine – Jacksonville. She’s a talented radiologist who brings much experience and expertise from a clinical and academic standpoint,” said Leon L. Haley Jr., MD, MHSA, dean of the college. “We believe she’s the right person to lead our department of radiology.”
Lall will guide a UF COMJ department that houses nearly 30 faculty physicians, nine divisions and four training programs. Paul Wasserman, DO, an assistant professor of radiology, has been serving as interim chair since Barry McCook, MD, stepped down earlier this year. McCook, who has since retired, was chair for six years.
“This is an exciting time for the department of radiology,” Haley said. “As we prepare for Dr. Lall’s arrival, I want to thank Dr. Wasserman for his remarkable service as interim chair.”
