Ana Alvarez, M.D., a University of Florida College of Medicine–Jacksonville associate professor specializing in pediatric infectious diseases, was recently appointed to the Advisory Council for the Elimination of Tuberculosis of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The 10-member council’s mission is to provide advice and recommendations regarding the elimination of tuberculosis to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and to the director of the CDC. The council reviews policies and new technologies; develops strategies; and analyzes the progress of efforts to bring an end to tuberculosis. The council is made up of the nation’s leading tuberculosis experts.
Alvarez received her medical education at the Universidad de Panama in Panama City, completed her residency in pediatrics at MetroHealth Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University and completed her fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital/Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
