The chief of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville has been named vice president of the Southeast Thoracic Association.

Abubakr A. Bajwa, M.D., an assistant professor of medicine, was voted to the post by the board this month.

The association is the medical section of the Southeast regional chapter of the American Lung Association, focusing on advocacy, education and research.

Bajwa’s term runs through 2014.
