Dr. Rui Fernandes appointed chief of new head and neck surgery section

Dr. Rui P. Fernandes has been named chief of head and neck surgery, a new section in the division of oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS), department of surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville. Acclaimed by his peers for his skills in microvascular reconstruction, particularly for head and neck cancers, Fernandes joined the UF faculty in 2005. He also serves as program director of the OMFS Residency and director of the microvascular surgery fellowship.

Fernandes received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, his dental degree from Boston University, and completed a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and a fellowship in maxillofacial oncology and reconstructive surgery at the University of Maryland. He sees patients at the UF Oral and Maxillofacial Clinic and performs surgery at Shands Jacksonville. See Dr. Fernandes' professional profile.
