Elizabeth DeVos, MD, MPH, an associate professor of emergency medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, is the new president of the Duval County Medical Society. She will serve in that leadership role for one year.
DeVos says she looks forward to continuing the goals of DCMS to provide physician support in the areas of education, advocacy and health care equity.
Priorities include representing Duval County physicians’ interests in Tallahassee and at the Florida Medical Association, continuing the society’s public health campaigns and supporting members by providing timely education, practice-management resources and programs. An example is the LifeBridge physician wellness program, a free, confidential service that supports DCMS members who are experiencing burnout and other challenges.
“Whether we can meet in person or virtually, our committees will focus on various public health initiatives, including the #FluVaxJax campaign. We are also working to disseminate information about the COVID-19 vaccine and assure access to those who are most vulnerable,” said DeVos, who was elected president of DCMS in October.
“When it is safe, we hope to have the opportunity to offer member physicians the opportunity for fellowship, as well,” she said. “In addition, we plan to explore more opportunities for residents to share their scholarship with the community.”
DeVos, who oversees international emergency medicine education on the UF Health Jacksonville campus, has been a member of DCMS since her days as a resident physician and has been involved with the society’s Board of Directors since 2013.
