Dr. Thomas Chiu, pediatric chairman, established this fund in memory of Dr. Sid Levin who came to Jacksonville in 1968 as chief of pediatrics at Duval County Medical Center and University Medical Center, the predecessor hospital to Shands Jacksonville. It is Dr. Chiu's wish to establish an endowed professorship in Dr. Levin's name.

Dr. Levin served continuously as chairman of the department of pediatrics until 1989. In addition to serving as chairman of pediatrics and director of the pediatric residency program, Dr. Levin also served as chief of emergency medicine of University Medical Center. During the course of his service, Dr. Levin held every major administrative position of the faculty and hospital including president of the medical staff. Dr. Levin retired from the faculty in 1998 with the rank of Emeritus Professor. His ability and success in training residents continues to be evident by the number of successful pediatricians and specialists practicing locally, nationally and internationally.
