Topic: Endobronchial Valves in Pulmonary Disease: Bridging Lung Volume Reduction and Persistent Air Leak Management

When:

Wednesday, October 1, 2025
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
LRC Auditorium

Speaker:

Pankit Patel, M.D.
Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine
UFCOM-J

Target Audience:

Community Physicians, Faculty, Residents/Fellows

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the mechanism of action and types of endobronchial valves (EBVs) used in the treatment of pulmonary diseases, including their bronchoscopic deployment and physiologic effects.
2. Identify appropriate patient populations for EBV placement in the management of both severe emphysema (for lung volume reduction) and persistent air leaks, based on clinical criteria and diagnostic imaging.
3. Review current evidence and clinical outcomes from major studies and case series supporting the use of EBVs in both lung volume reduction and air leak management.
4. Recognize procedural considerations, risks, and potential complications associated with endobronchial valve placement, and discuss strategies for minimizing and managing them.
5. Evaluate the evolving role of EBVs in interventional pulmonology, including future directions, expanded indications, and integration into multidisciplinary care pathways.
