Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Communicate effectively with healthcare team members regarding the urgency of lab orders and consults.
2. Apply critical thinking skills to prioritize and justify the need for specific laboratory tests, including:
- Peripheral smear for Adams13 activity and antibody
- Repeat LDH and haptoglobin testing
- Stool culture analysis
3. Evaluate the indications for hematology-oncology consultation in the context of thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS), or thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).
4. Implement appropriate management strategies based on the results of ordered tests and consultations.
5. Advocate for patient care needs by persistently communicating concerns and ensuring necessary actions are taken.
