Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the presentation, participants will be able to:
• Describe the indications, contraindications, and types of peritoneal dialysis (PD).
• Differentiate between continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) in terms of technique, benefits, and limitations.
• Demonstrate appropriate catheter care and aseptic technique for PD to minimize the risk of infection.
• Identify signs, symptoms, and management strategies for common complications of PD, including peritonitis and catheter malfunction.
• Evaluate patient-specific factors to determine suitability for initiating peritoneal dialysis as a renal replacement therapy.
• Develop a patient education plan that includes dietary recommendations, fluid management, and self-care practices for individuals on PD.
