Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the presentation, participants will be able to:

1. Clarify that neonatal encephalopathy is not only limited to hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
2. Recognize the other causes of neonatal encephalopathy.
3. Review the criteria for diagnosing hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
4. Delineate the pathophysiology of brain injury from hypoxic-ischemic injury.
5. Discuss indications for therapeutic hypothermia and neurodevelopmental outcomes of HIE.
