UF COMJ to welcome 96 new residents in July
On March 15, 2024, medical students across the country discovered where they would spend their residency.

It’s the day thousands of fourth-year medical students across the country anticipate. Ceremonies are held by medical schools across the country to mark the special day as family and friends gather to take part in a moment of accomplishment ahead of graduation. This comes after the National Resident Match Program successfully matches them with their future institutions of training.

An envelope contains their results. Upon opening, cheers and screams follow. A true moment of celebration as students look toward the next phase of their career in medicine. On March 15, 2024, thousands of future residents experienced what it was like to open those sealed envelopes.

Linda Edwards, MD, FACP, dean of the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, shared remarks at the annual University of Florida Match Day ceremony. Edwards is a familiar face to some students who completed clinical rotations in Jacksonville.
“There are a number of students I have had the opportunity to work with when you were in Jacksonville,” said Edwards. “We are very thankful that we had a chance to participate in your education. So many faculty here in Gainesville and Jacksonville have prepared you for the next step in your medical career and we are excited that you will be representing the University of Florida.”

In Jacksonville, the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville received its Match Day results as well. 18 residency programs tracks filled 100% of their positions and the college will welcome 96 incoming residents on July 1. Of that group, 44 are from allopathic medical schools and 52 are from osteopathic medical schools.
20 incoming residents come from medical schools in Florida and three of those are from the University of Florida.
“This is an exciting time for all of our programs at the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville,” said Elisa Zenni, MD, senior associate dean for educational affairs. “Our faculty works tirelessly to train the health care leaders of tomorrow and look forward to seeing their contributions to compassionate patient care, research, discovery and innovation help advance and improve medicine.”
Incoming residents will officially begin their residency on July 1.
