Bomb Threat Protocol

UF Health Bomb Threats protocols, as outlined in hospital policy A-10-012, can be viewed here.

It is crucial that everyone takes these types of threats seriously, and we ask that you pay attention to emails and text alerts should these situations arise. In addition, and most crucially:

1. If you receive a bomb threat by phone, keep the caller on the line as long as possible and document as much information as possible.
2. Do not touch or move any suspicious package or item.
3. Immediately contact our security office at (904) 244-4211.

Your situational awareness and adherence to established procedures are essential to keeping our patients, visitors and colleagues safe.

Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan

The Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP) is a part of our overall Emergency Preparedness Program or Emergency Operations Plan. The goal of this plan is to establish, organize, implement, monitor, and evaluate an effective program designed to ensure the appropriate response of staff and leadership to disaster events. Fire Drills & Evacuation

At UF Health Jacksonville there is an internal fire plan and external disaster plan. Drills are held periodically to familiarize each department and individual with the part they play should a real disaster or fire occur. Students are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the hospital fire and disaster plans and should have knowledge of what their responsibilities include during a disaster drill.

R – Rescue those in danger

A – Pull the alarm dial 4-2222, Code Red, give location

C – Contain the fire

E – Evacuate or extinguish

Always use the proper fire extinguisher to fight fire:

Class ABC – All types of fires

Class B – (CO2) Flamble Liquids

Class C – (CO2) Electrical & Chemical Fires

Pull the pin, Aim at base of fire, Squeeze handle, Sweep side to side.

When a fire alarm sounds:

1. Search the area you are in for fire and smoke.
2. Close doors as rooms are searched.
3. Stay where you are at until the alarm has silenced if you are in the hospital. Other areas, please evacuate building as in the Old Dialysis Building, Towers 1 and Tower 2 and POB Building.
4. Use TEAMWORK.
5. Do not panic.
6. Compliance – all students are expected to participate in fire and evacuation drills.

Emergency Management

As a department within the UF Public and Environmental Safety Division, the UF Department of Emergency Management (UFDEM) is responsible for coordinating a comprehensive, all-hazards approach by providing the institution with a framework of preparedness through prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery – striving to safeguard University lives and property. This framework allows the University to collectively address major incidents and emergencies.

The UF Department of Emergency Management (UFDEM) has a very comprehensive guide on various emergency situations, covering how to identify an emergency’s signs, symptoms and types, how to address an emergency, as well as whom to contact in case of an emergency.

Weather

Every year during hurricane season, the possibility exists that classes and clerkships will be disrupted because of a tropical system. This document serves as a guide for how to proceed and with whom to check in the event of a tropical system. Please recognize that the situations with storms are subject to change as the conditions change and students and faculty should remain attentive to their email or texts for updates.
