The Critical Care Resource Intensivist (CCRI) program is a multidisciplinary team of fellowship-trained critical care doctors from the traditional University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville departments of Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Medicine, Neurology, and Surgery. The team, established in April 2020, focuses on providing 24 hour, in-hospital, faculty-level care for the patients in the intensive care units (ICUs). In addition to allowing for immediate availability to perform life-saving interventions, procedures, and advanced decision-making, the presence of CCRI also allows for continuum of patient care throughout the night. Examples of this continued care include increased extubations at night, decreased ICU ventilator days, more frequent downgrades at night, enhancement of resident education, and increased comfort for patients’ families. Not only is the CCRI program aligned with the organization’s mission “To heal, comfort, educate, and discover” and vision “To be the region’s most valued healthcare asset;” but it also is another example of how Our Care Never Quits at UF Health Jacksonville.
