Jeremy Coleman, MD, named 40 Under 40 honoree by the Jacksonville Business Journal

Jeremy Coleman, MD, medical director of UF Health Family Medicine – Wildlight and UF Health Family Medicine and Pediatrics – St. Marys was selected as one of the Jacksonville Business Journal’s 2020 Class of “40 Under 40” honorees.

Like his fellow class members, Coleman was selected due to his business success, leadership skills and high level of community involvement. The Business Journal said 40 honorees were picked from a record number of nominees with a range of Jacksonville’s business leaders. Honorees also must be involved in shaping the community in which they live and work.

Christopher Scuderi, DO, associate chair of community health and family medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville and medical director of UF Health Family Medicine and Pediatrics – New Berlin, as well as Cindy Rogers, director of UF Health Wildlight, recognized Coleman’s exemplary work by nominating him for this honor.

“Dr. Coleman is an amazing leader in our organization and in the Northeast Florida community,” Scuderi said. “He grew up in Yulee and he has returned home with a passion to improve the health of the community he was raised in by leading and inspiring Wildlight family medicine to be a model of primary care excellence. His expertise in sports medicine has brought expanded services to the student-athletes in Nassau County.”

Rogers shares similar sentiments. “Dr. Coleman is a compassionate and committed physician, loved by his patients and cherished by the staff. He’s an intellect, natural teacher and community leader who is inspirational and aspires to uplift,” Rogers said.

Coleman joined UF Health in 2015 with a mission to improve the lives and health of all through medicine, mentoring and motivation. One of his professional accomplishments is being a member of a collaborative team that developed UF Health Wildlight. His experience as a former athlete and his training in family and sports medicine helped shape his vision of providing a clinical setting to not only diagnose and treat nonoperative injuries, but to offer comprehensive family medicine care to current and former athletes at one facility as well. He is proud of the role he played in bringing the vision to fruition.

In addition to his work at UF Health Jacksonville, Coleman is a team physician for West Nassau and Yulee high schools. He devotes time to various Nassau County business and community organizations. Coleman is also co-owner of the Nassau Pride, an American Basketball Association, or ABA, team that is actively engaged in community outreach.

One of the mantras Coleman lives by is, “Do good and do it well,” a directive from his elders to Coleman and his family. “They would always remind us growing up that it’s our responsibility to go into the world and be representatives of our family and lineage,” Coleman said.  “We do that by working to improve our community and making sure that we strive to work with passion, compassion and excellence.”

Coleman will be honored at the Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” awards event on Nov. 9.
