The Florida Society of Ophthalmology has recognized Sandeep Grover, MD, as the 2026 recipient of the Brayton Leadership Award. Grover is a professor and associate chair in the department of ophthalmology at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. He has served the college for more than 20 years.
The award honors leaders dedicated to preserving the profession of ophthalmology.
“Receiving the Brayton Leadership Award is a tremendous honor and a humbling experience,” Grover said. “It is especially meaningful to be recognized by colleagues whom I deeply respect. I view this award as a reflection of the many mentors, collaborators, and team members who have shaped my career and shared in the work of advancing patient care and our profession. I am grateful to the Florida Society of Ophthalmology for this honor and inspired to continue serving our patients and profession.”
Grover is an accomplished physician and researcher specializing in inherited retinal disease, with more than 150 peer-reviewed publications. As an educator, his greatest joy comes from developing future healthcare professionals.
“I am most proud of mentoring trainees and helping develop the next generation of ophthalmologists,” Grover said. “Seeing patients benefit from new therapies and watching former students and colleagues grow into leaders themselves has been especially rewarding.”
As he reflects on this career achievement, Grover is focused on advancing the field and expanding access to innovative treatments for patients here in Jacksonville.
“We are entering an era where treatments can be tailored to the underlying genetic cause of disease, offering new hope to patients who previously had no therapeutic options,” Grover said. “It is especially rewarding to see UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville recognized as one of a relatively small number of centers in the country participating in these groundbreaking clinical trials and helping bring innovative therapies to patients.”
