Shands Jacksonville wins prestigious Governor’s Sterling Award for Sustained Performance Excellence

Shands Jacksonville Medical Center is proud to announce its recognition by Governor Rick Scott and the Florida Sterling Council for Sustained Performance Excellence for 2011.

“Shands Jacksonville understands the importance of providing the best care possible to its patients and their families and strives to meet those expectations every day. The Sterling Sustained Excellence recognition shows just how hard every caregiver and employee within our organization works, and we are proud that Governor Rick Scott and the Sterling committee have recognized our efforts,” said Jim Burkhart, Chief Executive Officer of Shands Jacksonville.

Shands Jacksonville was first recognized by the governor’s office and the Florida Sterling Council in 2008 when it received the prestigious Florida Governor’s Sterling Award for Performance Excellence, which singles out companies for elevating performance and productivity. This year, Shands Jacksonville was one of only four organizations statewide to receive the honor for sustained excellence, a new level of recognition for ongoing improvement.

“I am honored to recognize this year’s Sterling Award recipients,” said Governor Scott. “These winners are shining examples of how organizations can achieve great savings and deliver outstanding services to Floridians by focusing on efficiency, innovation and excellence.”

The Florida Sterling Council says “visionary leadership, community engagement, and a culture of continuous learning have resulted in many areas of clinical excellence” at Shands Jacksonville. “The hospital has achieved benchmark level performance results for its Home Health services and on many inpatient engagement and related metrics.”

Shands Jacksonville will officially be honored at the 19th Annual Governor’s Sterling Award Banquet on June 3 in Orlando.
