McCook selected as radiology chair

Barry M. McCook, MD, has been appointed chair of the department of radiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville effective March 1.

“Dr. McCook has been serving as interim chair of the department since July 2010 and has performed in an outstanding fashion in that role,” said Robert C. Nuss, MD, UF associate vice president for health affairs and dean of the Jacksonville regional campus. “The UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville is privileged to have him as the new chairman of radiology and looks forward to great accomplishments from him and his department.”

McCook was selected following a national search for the position. In addition to serving as chair of the department, he will continue as director of the radiology residency program and chief of radiology services at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.

McCook received his medical degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. He completed his radiology residency and a nuclear medicine fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

Following his training, he practiced radiology in Jacksonville for several years and then was recruited by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. At UPMC he was an associate professor and served as chair of radiology at Shadyside Hospital, a major teaching affiliate of the UPMC health system.

McCook joined the UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville in August 2008 to serve as chief of the division of functional and molecular imaging and director of the radiology residency program.

McCook is board certified in radiology. His clinical interests include molecular and functional imaging and PET-CT scanning.
