Shah hired as new chair of Community Health and Family Medicine

Nipa Shah, MD, has joined the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville as chair of the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine. She was selected following a national search for the position.

Shah comes to Jacksonville from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where she served as an associate professor of clinical family medicine in the Department of Family Medicine. She received her medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine and completed her family medicine internship at Metro Health in Cleveland and her residency in family medicine at the University of New Mexico.

Shah is board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.

“Dr. Shah’s extensive experience in educational activities at the medical, student and resident level, along with her clinical experience, makes her an ideal candidate to follow in the footsteps of her predecessors and allows us to maintain the momentum already developed,” said Robert Nuss, MD, associate vice president for health affairs and dean of the regional campus.

Shah’s commitment both to education and global health is reflected in her committee involvements. Among them are the Academy of Excellence in Teaching, Education Coordinating Committee, Predoctoral Subgroup/Curriculum Committee, Faculty Balint Group (which she founded), Global Community Health Track for Residency, Global Health Electives for Medical Students, Global Health Electives for Family Medicine Residents and Global Health Think Tank.
