For the third consecutive year, Shands Jacksonville has received the Jean Byers Award for Excellence in Cancer Registration from the Florida Cancer Data System. The award acknowledges the quality, timeliness and completeness in the reporting of cancer data to the statewide cancer registry.
“This award shows the value of having a knowledgeable staff that is committed to more than just meeting the minimum reporting requirements, but striving to exceed them,” said Janice Hargrove, lead tumor registrar for Shands Jacksonville.
Of the more than 250 hospitals in Florida, Shands Jacksonville was one of 98 selected to receive this award.
The hospital’s cancer program is also accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. All cancer data from Shands Jacksonville is submitted to the FCDS as well as the National Cancer Data Base. This data is used to monitor trends in cancer incidence and to improve patient care.
