Local heroes honored at event benefiting TraumaOne

Shands Jacksonville will honor the men and women of our community who care for trauma victims and provide support for victims’ families at the third annual “A Night for Heroes” gala.

The black-tie event will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30 at Hangar 21, Malone AirCharter located at Craig Airport.

The event recognizes a trauma patient and honors all of the “heroes” who helped in his recovery. Those heroes include UF physicians, Shands Jacksonville nurses and technicians, TraumaOne flight crew, fire rescue personnel, police officers and many others.

The “A Night for Heroes” committee is proud to support housing for trauma patients’ families with the funds raised through the 2010 gala. These units will provide a convenient and comfortable environment for families during their loved one’s recovery.

The units are located at 3rd and Main in Historic Springfield and will be used for families that are from outside the Jacksonville area, live too far from Shands Jacksonville or have other needs for housing during their loved one’s stay. Since many patients are treated for extended periods of time, a hotel is not often a reasonable choice for the family. The units are fully furnished and provide a full kitchen.

Channel 4’s Mary Baer will emcee the event.
