Shands Jacksonville’s Little Miracles program will host its December citywide baby shower on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the Learning Resource Center, located on the corner of Jefferson and 8th Streets.
Shands will be administering H1N1 vaccinations for pregnant women in attendance of the shower, as well as children and family members living within their household.
The vaccinations will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, while supplies last. The reduced cost is $10 for the injection and $5 for the nasal mist. Only cash, checks and money orders will be accepted. Vaccinations will be given from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.
The baby shower offers free health screenings, wellness tips and information about the Shands Jacksonville Little Miracles program for mothers-to-be.
“We are so excited to offer this service at the baby shower,” says Donna Ghanayem, RNC, director of Community Programs and Outreach at Shands Jacksonville. “Today, it is not only important that these women get the education and information they need to ensure a healthy pregnancy, but also the H1N1 vaccination to help protect themselves and their babies. We are pleased to offer this service at a reduced price, placing it within reach for many of these mothers.”
Without the intervention of Little Miracles, many high-risk mothers kept only three to four prenatal appointments, and many of those did not start until the third trimester. Now, participants have scheduled and held at least eight appointments, with many beginning as early as five or six weeks into the first trimester.
