The first University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville ophthalmology residents will start July 1, 2008. This newly accredited program at the Jacksonville regional campus will appoint two residents each year during a three-year training program. The residency program will have a strong partnership with the VA, as well as Shands Jacksonville. Led by Program Director K.V. Chalam, M.D., and Associate Program Director Sandeep Grover, M.D., the ophthalmology faculty are prepared and eagerly awaiting the opportunity to provide formal graduate medical education to the incoming residents.
“This program will provide a stable, well-coordinated and progressive educational experience in the entire spectrum of ophthalmic diseases and ocular surgery. Residents in ophthalmology will develop diagnostic, therapeutic and manual skills as well as sound judgment in the application of such skills-providing a base for a comprehensive ophthalmic practice,” said Constance Haan, M.D., senior associate dean for educational affairs.
“Dr. Nuss, dean of the regional campus, and I are proud to have this important addition to the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville graduate medical education programs. We believe this residency program will provide excellent training for its residents and continued high-quality eye care for the community,” said Haan.
