Fifty-three community leaders from Wichita, Kansas, recently spent four days in Jacksonville as part of a region-to-region program to observe how other metropolitan areas develop and implement comprehensive growth plans.
Because the Wichita visitors were particularly interested in Jacksonville’s medical industry, they spent a day on the Jacksonville campus meeting with UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville and Shands administrators. Their talks centered on how the Jacksonville campus provides access to and delivers health care, funds residency programs and leverages its infrastructure for business spin-offs and clinical research.
The campus visit included tours of the Florida Proton Therapy Institute and CSEaSR – the Center for Simulation Education & Safety Research. The visitors also met with Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton, Jacksonville Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver and Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce leaders.
