Bottini named assistant director for research programs

Tina Bottini, M.P.A., has been named assistant director for research programs and services in the Office of Research Affairs at the Health Science Center-Jacksonville. In her new role she serves two functions – one for UF in the Division of Sponsored Research and the other for Health Science Center-Jacksonville in the Office of Research Affairs.

“Our office on the Jacksonville campus is a pre-award sponsored research office similar to the Gainesville campus,” said Bottini, whose signature title is assistant director of sponsored programs and services. “In this capacity we review, negotiate, execute contracts/agreement and assist faculty members in identify funding sources and submitting applications to funding agencies.” The office also helps in the award administration process in coordination with Gainesville and serves as liaison for Jacksonville faculty with the Gainesville contracts and grants division.

In her other role in the Office of Research Affairs, Bottini is involved in research program development in collaboration with Robert Nuss, M.D., senior associate dean and senior vice president for heath affairs, and Alan Berger, M.D., assistant dean of research. “I assist faculty with proposal applications and, when possible, coordinate interdepartmental collaborations and serve as liaison for research compliance on this campus with Gainesville,” she said. She also conducts, coordinates and facilitates education and training for Jacksonville faculty and research staff.

Bottini’s appointment is a transfer from her previous position as director of research and program development for the Shands Jacksonville Neuroscience Institute. Before joining UF in 2001, she was director of administration in the office of the executive associate dean of research at Northwestern University Medical School.
