UF/Shands Team Suits up for MS 150 Ride

Medical staff from the University of Florida and Shands Jacksonville are gearing up for a 150 mile bike ride to benefit the North Florida Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The ride kicks off at the St. Augustine Airport Sept. 16 at 7am and continues to Daytona and back Sept. 17.

Decked out in UF/Shands riding jerseys, the 11-person team will consist of Daniel Kantor, M.D., director of the multiple sclerosis program at Shands Jacksonville, as well as cardiologist and Iron Man competitor Lyndon Box, M.D. Kantor will have extra inspiration to help him peddle the 150 miles. He will be wearing a bandana that his MS patients have signed wishing him the best of luck on the long trek.

Shands Jacksonville is home to the city’s only comprehensive MS program and is recognized as the only center of excellence by the North Florida Chapter of the MS society. In addition to medical care, patients seen here have access to a myriad of services under one roof. Those services include: physical and occupational therapies, neuropsychological testing and social services. Kantor has even spearheaded a teen support group for his youngest patients, which started meeting this month.
