Rathore Receives National HIV/AIDS Care Provider Award

The Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services recently recognized Mobeen Rathore, M.D., a UF professor of pediatrics for his exceptional contributions to caring for medically underserved Americans living with HIV/AIDS.

Rathore, who also serves as chief of the pediatrics infectious diseases and immunology division in the pediatrics department in the College of Medicine Jacksonville and director of the UF Rainbow Center, is one of seven awardees nationwide who represent organizations funded under the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act.

He received the Rebecca Denison Award for Family Care Services for his commitment to research, providing high-quality HIV primary health care and being a champion of coordinated, comprehensive and family-focused care to ensure better health outcomes for individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS.

The awards were presented at the fourth biennial CARE Act Training and Technical Assistance Grantee Conference in Washington, D.C., which attracted more than 2,300 CARE Act grantees and representatives of public and private organizations.

The CARE Act is federal legislation that addresses the unmet health needs of persons living with HIV disease by funding primary health care and support services. The act was named after Ryan White, an Indiana teenager whose courageous struggle with HIV/AIDS and against AIDS-related discrimination helped educate the nation.
