The C.B. McIntosh, M.D., Sickle Cell Center at Shands Jacksonville/Nemours Children’s Clinic sponsored the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebrity Readathon on Jan. 16.
Several local celebrities read to the attendees, including Elizabeth Means, Shands Jacksonville vice president of Community Affairs, Leslie Ravago, M.D., assistant professor of pediatrics, Audrey Gibson, Florida House Rep., the Jaguar cheerleaders, nurses and community storytellers.
There was also a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King. “He was a motivator who challenged students to set and achieve high goals, regardless of the obstacles,” said Elzora Brown, Sickle Cell tutorial instructor. “We hope to continue King’s challenge by encouraging our patients to set high goals, persevere and never give up on their dreams.”
