Carnegie Foundation Researchers Visited Jacksonville Campus

Researchers for the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching visited campus Nov. 17 as part of the foundation’s Professional Preparation of Physicians program.

The study team, including senior scholar Molly Cooke, M.D. and Kelly Macatangay, M.A., is looking at the challenges of preparing physicians for complex practice and observing the innovative curricula, pedagogies and assessment practices that have been developed to meet these challenges. The study focuses on the professional development of physicians-in-training at three key points in their clinical education – early exposure to “doctoring,” third-year clerkships and residency.

The researchers visited both the Gainesville and Jacksonville campus. In Jacksonville they joined Ann Harwood-Nuss, M.D., associate dean for educational affairs, and Elisa Zenni, M.D., assistant dean for educational affairs, for inpatient rounds in trauma and in internal medicine and tours of the surgery and internal medicine clinics. Dr. Cooke also attended a presentation in the Emergency Department’s state-of-the-art simulation lab.
