Campaign to Improve Health in African-American Communities

The Association of Black Cardiologists partnered with the Shands Jacksonville Community Affairs department on Nov.19 for the national program ABC 2005 Super Weekend: Taking Steps Toward Better Health.

This campaign was designed by ABC to increase awareness and prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and coronary heart disease using health screenings and heart health education in African-American communities. Local physicians and other speakers addressed heart disease, tobacco and smoking cessation, exercise, access to healthcare, spiritual leadership involvement, diabetes and nutrition.

The heart health message reached more than 5,000 people at 15 local churches in Jacksonville.
