The Cardiovascular Center at Shands Jacksonville has been named the 2004 national award winner of the Solucient 100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success Study, 6th Edition. The award is based on exceptional services for acute myocardio infarction, congestive heart disease, coronary artery bypass graft and percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty with outcomes at national benchmark levels. This is the second time in three years the Cardiovascular Center at Shands Jacksonville has received this prestigious award. The first time was in 2002.
“The Cardiovascular Center at Shands Jacksonville is honored to receive this award. This accomplishment encourages us to continue our excellence in caring for heart patients and communicates our higher level of service in this field both locally as well as nationally,” said Theodore Bass, MD, UF chief of cardiology at Shands Jacksonville.
Solucient developed the 100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success study to identify high performing cardiovascular hospitals at a national level and to set performance targets for clinical treatment and management of this high risk, high cost and high volume service line. To qualify, hospitals must score highly across seven equally-weighted areas of performance measurement, which indicate high quality outcomes and effective management of care.
