Jacksonville, Fla. – Shands Jacksonville is continuing its mission to promote health and wellness to the First Coast community. On Friday, March 12 at 2:30 p.m., Shands Jacksonville and Cox Radio will announce their partnership as Shands Jacksonville becomes the title sponsor for the 2004 Care Van. The announcement will take place at The Jacksonville Fairgrounds in conjunction with the Gate River Run. For the second year, Shands Jacksonville is the official medical provider for the Gate River Run.
The new Shands Jacksonville Care Van is a mini-health unit on wheels that travels throughout the First Coast providing health and wellness information. In addition, screenings are made available as well as interactive displays focusing on different health issues. Topics include heart disease, cancer, diabetes, asthma, cholesterol, healthy eating, transportation safety and more.
“Shands Jacksonville is excited about this unique opportunity to offer our medical expertise to the community through so many popular events on the First Coast,” said Jim Burkhart, president and administrator of Shands Jacksonville. “Our physicians and staff are committed to promoting healthier lifestyles and the Care Van allows us to touch many lives throughout the area.”
The Shands Jacksonville Care Van will be participating in more than 70 events this year including:
- Precious Cargo Safety Celebration – April 3
- Back to School Rally @ Gateway Mall – July 28
- Sickle Cell Walk-a-thon – September 11
- MS 150 Bike Ride – September 18
