Shands Jacksonville Helps Runners Spring Into Training

Jacksonville, Fla. – It’s time to warm-up your mind, before lacing up those running shoes for the official 2004 Gate River Run. Shands Jacksonville and the University of Florida, in collaboration with the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast, are offering the official 2004 Gate River Run training classes at several First Coast YMCA locations.

Local runners have the opportunity to take courses in areas including sports medicine, orthopedics, cardiology, neurology, rehabilitation, emergency medicine and health and fitness. The classes will be held on Mondays and Saturdays beginning on Jan. 5, with the last class being offered Feb. 14.

The courses are made possible through WAYS, the Wellness Alliance of YMCA and Shands Jacksonville, a unique partnership created to promote health and wellness throughout our community. The WAYS program offers a variety of services; including health assessments and consultations, expert nutrition, exercise and medical advice, educational seminars, health screenings, free educational material, and referral resources.
