Jacksonville, Fla.-Gov. Jeb Bush has appointed Roger Bertholf, Ph.D., a University of Florida (UF) associate professor of pathology at Shands Jacksonville, to the Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel.
The seven-member board has authority over all licensed professionals in Florida that conduct medical laboratory testing used by physicians for diagnosis and treatment. The appointed members meet three times a year to review and recommend changes to laws and regulations that impact these professionals and impose disciplinary actions as needed. Bertholf will serve a four-year term on the board.
“I am honored to be appointed to this board, which serves such a vital role in ensuring the quality of clinical laboratory practice in the state of Florida,” says Bertholf, who applied for this position after receiving an invitational letter.
Bertholf, who also serves as the director of clinical chemistry and toxicology at Shands Jacksonville, is responsible for all chemistry and toxicology laboratory services within the academic medical center and assists in training UF pathology residents and fellows.
