Shands Jacksonville Celebrates National Hospital Week May 13-18

Jacksonville, Fla. – Miracles happen every day at Shands Jacksonville. In honor of our health care workers who are dedicated to making those miracles a possibility, Shands is celebrating National Hospital Week May 13-18.

This year’s national theme, “Where Miracles Happen Every Day,” marks the 81st celebration of what now is the nation’s largest health care event. As the city’s only academic medical center, Shands Jacksonville offers our community unique care. This week we celebrate not only all the resources provided by the University of Florida affiliation, but all of our team members who interact with our patients from the minute they enter the building until the time they leave.

A full week of activities has been planned to commend the hard work and dedication shown by our staff. A few highlights include:

  • Kick-off Continental Breakfast on Monday, May 13, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the atrium of the Learning Resource Center.
  • Homecoming Luncheon recognizing our retired staff from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, in the Banquet Room.
  • Time capsule will be buried containing Shands Jacksonville items of today for recovery in five years. This event takes place on Friday, May 17, at noon in front of the flagpole at the Clinical Center East Expansion.
  • I Care Day will top off Hospital Week events on Saturday, May 18. Shands Jacksonville employees will volunteer their time from 8 a.m. until noon, helping to refresh the medical center’s campus.
