Jacksonville, Fla. – Shands Jacksonville will celebrate National Nurses Week, which begins annually on May 6, marked as Registered Nurse Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of nursing as a modern profession.
The work of registered nurses at Shands Jacksonville, the area’s only academic medical center, is to save lives and to maintain the health of hundreds of individuals in our community.
Shands Jacksonville will take this week to show our nurses how much we appreciate their contributions to patients and our organization. Registered nurses and direct patient caregivers will be honored by a kick-off breakfast, awards reception, as well as a pampering station, where they will be treated to aromatherapy and a hand massage by professional beauty consultants.
Traditionally, National Nurses Week, designated in 1974 by the White House, is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways in which registered nurses, the largest health care profession, are working to improve health care.
